Stage 1 consists of an all-out solo time trial of either swim, bike or run – which the athletes race as a standalone event. The times taken here define the pursuit deficits for Stage 2. Stage 2 is swim-bike-run-swim-bike-run. There is a single Short Chute to be won on the first swim, and taken on the final run. Any athlete who falls 90 seconds behind the leader will be eliminated.
